Dorothy Sue Elder or more affectionately known as Mom, Sissy, and Nanny has left this world at age 91 to enter her long-awaited home in glory on March 12th, 2025.
Sue was born in Jackson, TN to the late Hester H. and Mary Iver Wallace Crews on November 28th, 1933. She was married for 62 years to her late husband Clarence Eugene “Gene” Elder. They lived in Jackson, TN until 2013 when they moved to Benton, AR to be close to their son and family. She was a member of Ararat Baptist Church in Jackson and attended Eagle Point Church after moving to Benton, AR.
Sue taught 3rd & 4th grade Sunday School for many years. She loved to read her Bible and go through the Journey Bible studies daily and she loved attending her Sunday School Class with all her friends at Eagle Point.
Sue loved flowers and gardening, and her labor of love was evident at her home in Jackson and Benton. Along with flowers she loved birds but especially Hummingbirds and she made sure to have a feeder up where she could view from her window. She owned a flower shop named Three Sisters and enjoyed making arrangements for all to enjoy. She was also very talented at crafts & enjoyed going to craft fairs to sell the things she made and teaching classes to others on how to make them. Her and Gene both would make yard signs for all seasons, but Christmas was their favorite. Gene cut out the designs and painted the bases with her painting in all the detail.
They also enjoyed traveling and were members of the Good Sams Club. During that time, they made many memories and lifelong friendships. She also loved taking trips with her family. Some of her most treasured trips are the ones with her sisters and nieces spending some fun quality time with them.
Sue loved to watch Wheel of Fortune. Anyone who was at her house when it came on would watch along with her. She also loved to play games. Some of her favorites were Hand and Foot and Train Dominoes.
Everybody loved Sissy’s cooking. For many years she would host Family Thanksgivings and Christmas’ at her house where the table was full of food made by her loving hands.
Sue is proceeded in death by her brothers Bud Crews, Jimmy Crews, R.B Crews and Paul Crews.
She is survived by her son Randy Elder and daughter in law Janie Elder both of Benton. Her sisters, Patsy Moody (Arthur), Diane Winbush (Steve) and a brother Billy Crews (Mary “Snooks”) all of Jackson. Granddaughter’s Rachael Blasingame and Pam Picard as well as her Grandson’s in-law Michael Blasingame and Jeremy Picard. Her Great-grandchildren Ranen & Ashli Blasingame of Benton, Olyvia & Calvin Picard of Cabot as well as many nieces and nephews.
Services will be Saturday, March 22nd at Ararat Baptist Church 3608 Brownsville Hwy Jackson, TN 38301. Visitation will be at 12:00pm followed by the service at 1:00pm. She will be laid to rest at the church cemetery.
