Donald Wayne Willey

July 14, 1935 — February 21, 2025

Jackson

Donald Wayne Willey, a stalwart of the US Navy and a devoted family man, departed this world on February 21, 2025, in the heart of Jackson, Tennessee. Born on July 14, 1935, in the serene town of Hinton, West Virginia, Donald's life was marked by a profound sense of service, unwavering love, and an adventurous spirit that never wavered.

For several years, he served with distinction in the United States Navy, where he not only committed himself to the service of his country but also forged a career that would define his professional life. After two decades of dedicated service, he retired as an E-7 Chief Petty Officer. He embraced retirement with the same enthusiasm and vigor that he had exhibited throughout his military career. In the years following his enlistment, he channeled his passion into taxidermy, a craft that allowed him to blend artistry with a deep appreciation for nature.

Reflecting upon his life, Donald would often convey that his proudest accomplishments were found not in medals or accolades but rather in the love and bonds he forged with his family. He cherished and adored his wife and took great pride in the family they cultivated together. His heart was a repository of fond memories and lessons imparted to those dearest to him.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Danita Maxwell Willey; son, Scott Willey; and sisters, Linda Ballard and Sue Bryan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Brady Hayes and Dorothy Willey; and siblings, Keith, Dottie, Betty, and Mike.

The burial will take place at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2025, at the West TN State Veterans Cemetery at Parkers Crossroads.

As we remember Donald Wayne Willey, we celebrate a man who served his country honorably and loved fiercely. His legacy is one of devotion, courage, and an indomitable spirit that reminds us all of the warmth found in family and the duty to serve—both in uniform and at home. His absence will be felt deeply, yet his spirit will forever resonate in the hearts of those who had the honor to know him.
