Dewey O. Baker Funeral service for Dewey Baker, 86, will be held 1:00 P.M. Saturday August 13, 2011 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church with Dr. John Bonson, Rev. Glen Hill and Dr. Barry Scott officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens with military honors. Mr. Baker died Thursday August 11, 2011 at Maplewood Healthcare. He was born August 4, 1925 in Medina, TN the son of the late John Cyrus and Lizzie Jane Rhodes Baker. He was a veteran of WWII, member of the 78th Lightning Division in the European Theater. He was captured by German troops at the Battle of the Bulge and was a POW until the end of the war. He was a founding member of the DAV and POW chapter of Jackson, TN. He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Emmaus Community, Lion?s Club and Masonic Lodge. He is survived by a daughter Judy Baker Duke and husband Jimmy of Jackson, TN; a brother Rev. Elton Baker, wife B.J. of Memphis; two grandchildren Julie Duke and Michael Duke, wife Diana, and three great-grandchildren, Addie, Erin and Rachel Mr. Baker was preceded in death by his wife Frances Patterson Baker and a sister Virgie Mae Barnett. The Wisdom Seekers Sunday School Class is asked to sit together as a group. Pall Bearers are Michael Duke, Ken Baker, Bob Baker, Ben Baker, John Allen, Jim Murdaugh and Bart Swift. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Aldersgate United Methodist Church or The STAR Center. The family will receive friends Friday August 12, 2011 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Arrington Funeral Directors.
