William Dean BurlesonFuneral services for Dean Burleson, 86, will be held Saturday, August 21, 2010 at 11:00AM at Englewood Baptist Church with Rev. Ben Mandrell, Dr. Philip Jett and Dr. Brent Lay officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens. Mr. Burleson died Wednesday afternoon, August 18, 2010 at Jackson ? Madison County General Hospital.Dean was born July 16, 1924 in Johnson City, TN the son of the late Jay Burleson and Carrie Garland Burleson. He was Director of Marketing for Factory and Steel Transportation and served during World War II. He served in the Navy for 5 years, the Marines for 1 year and as an enlisted reserve. Mr. Burleson taught Sunday School for 59 years, he was a member of Gideons International and a member of the Carl Long Sunday School Class at Englewood Baptist Church. He loved golf, reading and was an avid UT sports fan, especially UT football and the Lady Vols.Dean loved his Lord, his family, his friends and his church.He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Nell Burleson of Jackson, TN, one son John Burleson and wife Pam of Jackson, TN, one daughter Susan Johnson and husband Mike of Kings Mountain, NC, two brothers Grover Burleson and Reno Burleson both of Johnson City, TN, three grandchildren, Angie Knapp and husband John of Shelby, NC, Ben Burleson and wife Jenny of Mill Valley, CA, Luke Burleson of Memphis, three great grandchildren, Reagan Knapp, John Michael Knapp and Riley Burleson.Those serving as pallbearers will be Ben Burleson, Luke Burleson, John Knapp, Terry Hemby, Tommy Putman, Oscar Owens, Bob Perrin, Dr. John Jenkins, Harold Pinkley and Andy Dodson. Members of the Carl Long Sunday School Class will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.The family would like to extend their deep appreciation to Dr. John Jenkins, Dr. Dwight Kaufman, Dr. Bill Mariencheck and Dr. James Egan for their compassionate care.The family has requested that memorial contributions be directed to The Gideons International, Jackson West Camp, P. O. Box 173, Jackson, TN 38302 or Englewood Baptist Church Building Fund, 2239 N.
