Clara went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 1, 2021 at her home in Chattanooga, TN with her family by her bedside.
Graveside services will be held at Rocky Springs Cemetery on September 5, 2021 at 2:00 PM with the Rev. Jerry Welch officiating. Burial will follow with Arrington Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
Clara was born November 4, 1925, in Beech Bluff, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Ludie Lee and Ora Staples Crowder. She was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in the Maple Grove Community where she kept the nursery for many years. She graduated from Beech Bluff High School in 1943 as class Valedictorian. She retired from American Olean Tile.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years Dolton Lea Bickerstaff, twin brother Claron Lee “Bud” Crowder, and nephew Joe Crowder.
Clara is survived by her children Larry Bickerstaff (Sugi), Billy Bickerstaff (Vicki), Lee Ann Webb (Eddie); nephew Ronnie Crowder (Connie); grandchildren Blake Bickerstaff (Rebecca), Benjamin Bickerstaff, Hollie Webb, Tyler Webb (Edie), Teresa Wheeler, Jennifer White; and 6 great grandchildren.
Clara who also went by “Sis” and “Maw Maw”, truly loved life and all the people she met. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. A woman of impeccable talents, she excelled at crocheting, cross-stitching, heirloom quilting, sewing, gardening, canning, and pillow making (for breast cancer survivors). She solved hundreds of word puzzles and put-together hundreds of jig-saw puzzles. And she was an avid Tennessee Titan fan.
Pallbearers are Ronnie Crowder, Rodney Crowder, Wesley Crowder, Blake Bickerstaff, Benjamin Bickerstaff and Tyler Webb.
