Charlotte Matlock, age 71, died Tuesday, May 12, 2020 in Jackson, TN.
She was born in Whiteville, TN on December 28, 1948 to Opal and Thomas Fawcett. She grew up in the small town of Hickory Valley, TN; the youngest of five children and the only girl. When she was twelve, she dedicated her life to Jesus and joined Hickory Valley Baptist Church. After graduating high school, she moved to Jackson to attend West Tennessee Business College where she developed lifelong friendships and met her husband, Montie. She and Montie made their home and started both a family and a construction business in Jackson. She worked hard for the business for over 40 years, but hardest for her family, who will continue her legacy. Her dedication and devotion to her “girls” was evident to everyone. If her girls were involved, so was she. She served as PTA president, VBS volunteer, Young Life committee, church volunteer, and was always at the ready to help those in need. She had a meal, a smile, and an open door for everyone. She built a loving home where all were welcomed and loved. Twenty-three years ago, she became a Mimi and she glowed even more. As much as she loved being a mother, she loved being a Mimi more. She cherished and adored her grandchildren, who always wanted to be with her. She was also a dedicated friend and would meet some special friends for “coffee” every morning for over 25 years. She and Montie were dedicated members of Englewood Baptist Church for over 45 years and loved their time spent with special friends in their Sunday School class.
She was preceded in death by her parents Opal and Thomas Fawcett and a granddaughter, Adeline Moak.
She is lovingly remembered by her surviving family; husband Montie Matlock of Jackson and her three daughters and their husbands; Bree (Jim) Abernathy of Franklin, TN, Ellen (Jason) of Germantown, TN, and Dana (Jay)Bush of Jackson, TN and her eight grandchildren; Reagan Abernathy, J.D. Abernathy, Jeb Bush, Darby Bush, Eleanor Bush, Margo Bush, Davis Moak, and Emery Moak. She is also survived by her brothers and their wives; Lavoy Fawcett, Travis (Barbara) Fawcett, Davis (Nancy) Fawcett, and Mike (Pam) Fawcett. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews who all loved their Aunt Charlotte.
