Charles E. Nolen III, age 87, of Jackson, TN, passed away peacefully at his residence on Monday, January 6, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 12, 1937, in Jackson, he lived a life rich in service, dedication, and love.
Charles had a distinguished career as an Engineer's Mate with the Tennessee Department of Transportation for forty-seven years, where his expertise and commitment contributed significantly to his community. He also proudly served in the Tennessee Army National Guard for thirty years, demonstrating a lifelong dedication to his country and his fellow citizens.
His academic journey began at the William R. Moore School of Technology, where he honed his skills and laid the groundwork for his successful career. Beyond his professional life, Charles had a vibrant personality and a range of hobbies that enriched his years. He was an avid collector of American Flyer trains, often delighting in this passion with his grandchildren. Additionally, he enjoyed working in his yard, finding joy in the beauty of nature that surrounded him.
Family was, without a doubt, the cornerstone of Charles's life. He is survived by his devoted wife of fifty-nine years, Anne Klees Nolen; his son, Michael Nolen (Jemmi) and his beloved daughter, Michelle Gunnels (Scott). He cherished his role as a grandfather and took immense pride in his grandchildren: Josh Castellaw (Erin), Jacob Castellaw, Evan Castellaw (Madison), Rebekah Nolen (Baby Girl), and Christopher Nolen (Little Guy). His family remained his proudest accomplishment, which he celebrated throughout his life.
Charles's visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, beginning at 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors at 1:00 p.m.
