Charles O. Giles, of Jackson, TN, died Saturday, October 15, 2022, at West Tennessee Veterans Home in Humboldt, TN, at the age of 95.
Born on Sunday, January 16, 1927, in Madison County, Tennessee, he was the son of the late George Fenner Giles, Sr. and Ethel Pomeroy Giles. Charles was in the second class to graduate from Northside High School where he was active in Future Farmers of America (FFA). He farmed for several years and worked at the Jackson Company as a machinist. Because of his knowledge as a machinist, he began teaching at the Tennessee College of Applied Technology. Continuing his education in vocational and industrial education at the University of Tennessee, he then worked at the Madison County Vocational School until he retired. Charles proudly served in the United States Army, serving in World War II and the Korean War.
He was a Boy Scouts of America Assistant Scout Master of Troop #203, a member of the Order of the Arrow, and the Retired Teachers Association. An elder at The First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, he was active in the Friendship Sunday School Class, served on the building and grounds committee, and Chairman of the Building Committee that finished the interior of the south wing. Charles loved to help people in many ways.
Those to cherish his memory are his children, son, Charles Wesley Giles and wife Selina of Jackson, TN, and three daughters, Carolyn Cherry and husband Donald, of Henderson, TN, Connie Casey of Birmingham, AL, and Patty Parris and husband Dale of Murrells Inlet, SC; sister, Frances Katherine Giles Watson, of Lenoir City, TN; plus numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Buck Giles, one brother and one sister.
SERVICE: The Funeral Services will be held Thursday, October 20, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors with Rev. Terry Hunley officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the service time at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be directed to First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 1730 Highway 45 Bypass, Jackson, TN 38305.
