Carl Lee McGee, age 78, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 3, 2023, in his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Oak Grove, LA on January 11, 1945, he was the son of the late William Claude and Ruth Willis McGee.
His career choice was in manufacturing. When Carl and his wife, Sandra owned M&M Mini Mart, they had an abundance of patrons from many areas who came in for good food and conversation. Known as a hard worker with a strong work ethic, he also recognized good work when he saw it. Carl never met a stranger, could talk about anything, and had more patience than Job. A kind man, he was always ready to help others.
He was more than an avid outdoorsman and took fishing and hunting trips to Canada, South Dakota, and Colorado. Loving to travel, he and his wife took many trips, especially to Costa Rica and the Virgin Islands. His love and respect for all living things were instilled in his daughter, son, and his grandchildren. His knowledge of horticulture was sought out by many friends and family in the surrounding communities. With school projects, he enjoyed sharing his collection of tree leaves for leaf collections, and small animals for Show-and-Tell. Looking at his yard is proof of how much he enjoyed working in his yard and flowerbeds.
Carl’s love for his family was unsurpassed. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 53 ½ years, Sandra Carter McGee; daughter, Holly McGee Chilcutt; son, Christopher Lee McGee (fiancé, Ann Bard); his beloved grandsons, Tyler McGee (Alexis) and Hunter McGee; granddaughters, Aubrey Chilcutt and Avery Chilcutt; great-grandchildren, Gabi McGee and Mia McGee; brother, Robert McGee (Joann); sister, Nora Jean Allen; sister-in-law, Gail Fults; sister-in-law, Nellie McGee; and cousin, Liz Willis.
