Billy Terrence Owen

Bill was born in Mayfield,Kentucky on May 27, 1938 to parents Fred and Josephine Owen. He grew up in Pryorsburg, KY and was an avid hunter and fisherman as a young man. Billy won several target shooting competitions during his teenage years.
Bill attended school from K to 12th grade in Graves County, KY. While in high school Bill excelled at Baseball and Basketball. Like every other young basketball player in the state of Kentucky, Bill grew up as a Kentucky Wildcat fan and continued pulling for the Cats his entire life.
This love of the game and his Baptist faith eventually led him to Union University in Jackson, TN. He graduated from Union in 1963. While in college Bill met the love of his life, Nancy Holmes. They were married on August 3, 1962. After graduating from Union, Bill became a high school basketball coach in West Kentucky.
In 1964 Bill led the Farmington HS Basketball team to their first winning season in school history. Bill continued a successful coaching career until 1972. While coaching In West Kentucky, Bill and Nancy added a son to their family, David Terrence Owen.
In 1973 Bill changed careers and went to work for Combined Insurance Company. Bill quickly advanced with the company and within a year he was promoted to management. Over his 17 years with Combined Insurance he achieved multiple awards including their highest award, The Ring of Diamonds.
In the early 1990’s Bill started an independent insurance agency with his son David. Owen Insurance Agency specialized in Life, Cancer and Accident insurance. Bill retired after 39 years of serving his client’s needs.
Bill never lost his love for coaching. He coached youth baseball from 1977 until 1984. During his youth coaching tenure he won several city championships and led the 1982 Senior Little League All-Star Team to a State Championship.
Bill was a devoted member of Englewood Baptist Church and set a Christian example for everyone’s life he touched.
Bill is survived by his wife Nancy Owen; a son, David Owen and three grandchildren Kayla Owen, Hope Owen and Chance Owen who he loved greatly.
SERVICES: A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 23, 2014 in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors with Dr. Philip Jett officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 11:30 AM until 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
