Bettye Jo Rushing, age 89, died Monday, March 22, 2021 at Jackson -Madison County General Hospital.
She was born June 5, 1931 in Pinson, Tennessee, the daughter of Clint and Mary Fussell Nanney.
Bettye was active at Poplar Heights Baptist Church, serving as chair of the food committee serving families and guests of the church for many years. She taught the 4-year old Sunday School class, loved her cats, and especially loved her granddaughters. Bettye worked in sales for Power and Telephone and Jackson Utilicor.
Other than her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers Jessie Howard Nanney and twin Bobby Gene Nanney; and sisters Vera Elizabeth Azbill and Dorothy Nell Smith. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Dan Rushing; one son Steve Rushing and fiancé Kathy Harber; and two granddaughters Shelby Rushing and Taylor Rushing.
SERVICES: A funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at 2:00PM in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors with Rev. Larry Murphy and Rev. Richard Bragg officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00PM until service time at 2:00PM. Burial will follow in Rushing Cemetery.
Pallbearers to serve are Barry Cooksey, Amos Davenport, Bill Forsythe, Kenny Hornsby, Bobby Ringold, Phil Rogers, Bill Wheatley and Danny Wheeler.
Honorary pallbearers are Bobby Bell, Larry Bell, Glen Nanney, Lynn Nanney, Wayne Rushing and Larry Stout.
The family asked that memorials be directed to Kirkland Cancer Center, 74 Directors Row, Jackson, TN 38305.
