Barbara Ann Johnston

Barbara Ann Johnston of Oakfield, TN departed this life peacefully on Sunday, April 30, 2023, at the Christian Care Center of Medina, at the age of 85.
Barbara Ann was born to the late James Curtis Wood and Mary Rodgers Wood on November 25, 1937, in Jackson, TN. She graduated from Beech Bluff High School in 1954. She attended business school at West TN Business College and then worked for the Tennessee State Highway Department. As her children were growing up, she drove a Madison County School bus and later worked at Old Hickory Mall for many years in customer service. She has been a member of North Jackson Baptist Church for seventy plus years. Her children and grandchildren meant the world to her.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Greg Johnston (Shelley)of Oakfield, TN and Laura Balcunas (Joey) of Medina, TN; grandchildren, Claire Johnston of Jackson, TN, Rachel Johnston of Oakfield, TN, Jonathan Balcunas of Medina, TN, and Jillian Balcunas of Medina, TN; and sisters, Mary Janette “Janie” Wood and Kay Wood Duck along with many nephews and nieces. Aside from her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Phil Johnston, her daughter-in-law, Scarlett Pickens Johnston; and brother, James Curtis Wood, Jr.
The funeral service will be held 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2023, in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors, with Brother Maurice Hays officiating. Burial will follow at East Laurel Baptist Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to North Jackson Baptist Church.
